Fable Anniversary: Modding

Since announcing that Fable Anniversary would come to Steam, we’ve seen a fantastic reaction from our community. Not only have we seen lots of excitement for the upcoming release, but we’ve also seen new suggestions on features we could add to make the game even better. One thing the Steam community in particular have been crying out for is the ability to mod the game. While it sounds simple, enabling modding for Fable Anniversary comes with serious challenges. The game, after all, uses the same gameplay engine as the original Fable, which really wasn’t designed with modding in mind. This means allowing modders to change core elements of the game, to add new content, change text etc is almost impossible.     But, not being the sort to be dissuaded, we spent a lot of time investigating what we could do to bring Fable modding to the Steam community. Today we’re very glad to announce that we’ll be bringing modding support to Fable Anniversary on Steam! At launch there will be a free, optional download which will give you the Unreal 3 Editor and all the data from the game, enabling you to completely change any of the art or animation in Fable Anniversary. We are also working to integrate this into Steam Workshops sometime after launch. We’re really excited about the potential modifications people could come up with using these tools (sci-fi Fable?!) so make sure you share your creations with us on Facebook and Twitter.  If you haven’t done so already, be sure to get your pre order in now – not only is the game discounted by 20% during pre-purchase, but you’ll also get the Scythe bonus content pack for free! Not long to go, now!
