Another pair of Vertical JP covers have been released this week…
Fumi Yoshinaga’s What Did You Yesterday? vol 9. (On sale in Japan next week)Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s Mobile Suit Gundam: The ORIGIN part XII (last volume; on sale now)

WHY WHY WHY WHY Can’t Sunrise let Vertical use the Japanese covers for Origin???

Cause they did not have files for the first 8 volumes. They never expected anyone to want to license the hardcovers so the art was never kept on file. These are limited editions in Japan, rarely reprinted, so they tossed the art. When we asked for them… They just gave us a photocopy of the cover and said “this is what you can work with or build new ones”. We made new ones.

THAT’S the reason? Such gorgeous pieces weren’t kept on file? That’s insane, you’d think in this day and age you’d archive everything, especially original covers made by Yas. Crazy.

This day and age? LOL. This series started around 12 years ago. Heck, Paradise Kiss had and still has no files. We had to get them created at a huge cost. This is one main reason why we do not take license suggestions for anything before 2005 cause there might not be files (people still had a lot of analog media back then and seriously many publishers/authors never expected to have some of there works licensed/reprint).

I still would have requested to change the covers, tho. I prefer the paperback covers over the hardcover versions.
