Summary:
It's basically centered around the spiritual and scientific evolution of mankind through forcing the world to come together as one and understand each other vs war with each other (however the attempt to achieve such peace is via the forceful elimination of war through war using an external collective of people). However they pretty much put all religious beliefs aside with the assumption that we can only do this by our own efforts, by attempting to achieve a higher state of being (basically ascension, or a natural "new-type") and work together to live for a better purpose, and to move into space. Also so that we may ready to face a foreseen alien confrontation.
Naturally throughout there are many military organizations fighting over who can truly bring peace to mankind (or political control), many political views, people who gain too much power and believe themselves to be a god, etc etc etc.
Review:
The series itself is naturally amazing (it's Gundam...), but also one of the deepest story-lines they have put together yet. The graphics, sound and effects are quite amusing. As the series rolls on, the language becomes very mature as well as the philosophy behind the plot. I highly recommend the series to Gundam fans as well as anyone looking for a smorgasbord of entertainment. Get your HD tv's ready and crank up the sound, and get ready for a great ride!
