Summary:
The Berserk anime documents the earlier part of Gatts' life when he is a soldier with a mercenary group the Hawks. The setting is in medieval Europe, and the series is a dark mix of fantasy, horror, action and drama - an anime like no other. A young mercenary, his life is changed forever when he meets Griffith leader of the hawks...

Review:
Berserk has a very dark and interesting story line, which really grabs your attention and won't let you stop till you finish the last episode. The characters are great too, with what i consider the most most evil bad guy I've ever seen in my life that breaks the typical bad guy stereotype. The hero too isn't your typical anime hero with righteous ideals, but is extremely likeable and cool. I don't want to give away too much but you'll know what i mean when you watch the series. The drawing and music are also pretty good and fit the mood and feel of the storyline. However, be warned: the anime does not have a "proper" ending cos the manga runs for much longer, and the anime only covers volumes 3-13 of the manga. I was pretty frustrated and annoyed by the lack of closure to the anime, but it still is one my favourites of all time. Very different from your normal anime but definitely worth watching!
